Santa Claus parade set to roll through Carp Dec. 12

EMC Events - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...well maybe not yet, but the festive season is just around the corner.

And contributing to the yuletide joy is the Huntley Community Association (HCA) as the volunteer organization is hosting Carp's first ever Santa Claus Parade.

The parade is scheduled to take place Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1 p.m.

"We've been talking about it (having a parade) for many years," said HCA vice-president and special events director Pat Ross. "We wanted to pick up on what other community associations are doing (hosting a parade)."

One of the logistical aspects of the parade that local residents need to be aware of is the effect road closures will have on the community as the parade passes through the heart of the village.

The parade will begin on Rivington Street, make its way down Carp Road through the community, before ending at the Huntley Mess Hall, located at 224 Craig Side Rd. A little gathering for young children will take place after the parade at the mess hall with snacks and a special visit from Santa Claus.

"Carp Road will be closed at March Road to Thomas Dolan," said Ross. "Houses on Carp Road will not be able to get in our out during the parade."

The Ottawa Police Service will be assisting with traffic duty as well as volunteers.

At present, Ross said there are 23 floats registered to take part in the Santa Claus parade.

For this first event there is no theme and Ross said the HCA wants to "let people use their imagination."

She noted that of the individuals and businesses in Carp that have been approached so far about being involved in the Christmas parade, the community association has received nothing but positive feedback.

Please watch future editions of the EMC for more details as the event draws closer.
